Tips for packing your artwork before shipping

Quality packaging allows you to ship your artwork in better conditions. Remember, if the artwork is damaged due to improper packaging, you will be responsible.

Warning! While packing your artwork, do not forget to enclose the invoice and the certificate of authenticity in the package. 

 

To pack a painting on canvas

- put an acid-free paper on the entire surface of the canvas.

- wrap in two layers of bubble wrap (the bubbles inward) using tape.

- protect the canvas by placing on each side a thick cardboard of the same size as the frame. 

- pack everything in a cardboard box of suitable size.

 

To pack an artwork on paper or a photograph without a frame

- cover the artwork in several layers of acid-free paper.

- take two thick cardboards larger than the artwork (+ 5cm for each edge). This will protect the corners, particularly sensitive.

- attach the artwork to the centre of one of the cardboards, with adhesive tape (the adhesive tape must adhere only to the wrapping paper, never to the surface of the artwork.)

- put the second cardboard on top.

- wrap the set in bubble wrap (bubbles inwards)

- insert into a suitably sized envelope.

- stick a "DO NOT FOLD" label on the envelope.

 

To pack a framed artwork

- it is not recommended to send by mail a framed artwork.  If you still decide to do it: 

- wrap in two layers of bubble wrap (the bubbles inward) using tape.

- protect the frame by placing a thick cardboard of the same size on each side.

- pack everything in a cardboard box of suitable size.

Warning: a large framed artwork is particularly difficult to ship and may require a custom wooden crate to be manufactured for this purpose. We advise, considering the cost, to avoid framing your large artworks. If framing is not avoidable, frames without glass are preferable, because the glass may break and damage the artwork.

Do not use newspaper, plastic bags, or other materials of this type. They can seriously damage the artwork.
