CURATOR’S VIEW: The artwork titled "Perspectives" is characterised by a dynamic array of geometric shapes and lines that create a sense of depth and three-dimensionality. The composition primarily features warm colours such as red, orange, and yellow, interspersed with contrasting cool tones of blue and teal. The shapes converge towards a central vanishing point, leading the eye into the painting. The use of sharp angles and intersecting lines gives the impression of looking through a kaleidoscope. There's a harmonious balance between the warm and cool colours, which adds to the visual impact of the piece. The painting evokes feelings of energy, movement, and transformation, as if it's inviting the viewer to consider different perspectives and angles. The style is reminiscent of cubism and could draw inspiration from artists like Picasso or Braque. The texture is smooth, with the wet acrylic paint applied in a way that doesn't create a raised surface.
“Perspectives” is also an experiment, where Syona explores new valences of pour acrylic. Colours are barely mixing to each other. They keep a solid appearance, while still suggesting the flow. Then, the boundaries of abstract expressionism are being pushed further, when Syona states that “Perspectives” is ultimately a “self-portrait” - as a matter of perspective!
ARTIST’S CONCEPT: My creation ignites the canvas with vibrant acrylic hues, channelling the raw energy of cubism. I sought to capture the essence of emotion and movement through bold, fragmented forms. This piece is a celebration of perspective, inviting viewers to embrace the dynamic dance of colour and shape. It will electrify any space with its spirited dialogue between form and abstraction.
